Today will feel downright balmy compared to the cold heading our way this weekend.
After highs near 30 and 32 today and Friday, much colder air will descend on the region. In the Twin Cities, expect highs dropping into the single digits Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
The cold should stick around into at least the first week of February, the weather service says.
There will be a couple rounds of light snow, too.
The metro can expect about an inch of snow today and tonight. Another 1 to 2 inches are expected Thursday night into Friday, according to the weather service.
On the bright side, today is the first point in winter when the Twin Cities' average high temperature - now 24 degrees - starts to climb up.
